Our new topic page on assessment and monitoring is now available.

Assessing and monitoring recordkeeping is a key component of an effective records management program. It provides surety that public records are being created, stored and managed in a way that meets business needs and legal and regulatory obligations, and identifies issues and risks.

This topic page provides an overview of the components of a recordkeeping assessment and monitoring program, including:

  • why organisations should assess their recordkeeping practices
  • assessment and monitoring requirements of the PROV Standards
  • setting performance criteria
  • assessment methods and approaches
  • embedding continuous improvement in your recordkeeping program
  • the importance of reporting on your results.

The assessment and monitoring topic page includes information about how public offices can use PROV's Recordkeeping Assessment Tool (RKAT) as part of their compliance assessment program. RKAT enables organisations to measure the maturity of their recordkeeping practices against the requirements of the PROV Standards.
